The project transformed an unfinished concrete structure into the new parish church for Las Mantecas neighborhood. The community proposed to complete the existing reinforced concrete structure and thus prevent its continued deterioration.
The new church is based on the idea of being an intervention respectful of the preexistence, in the sense of not substantially affecting the projected building so that its execution could be continued in phases in the future. Wood was introduced as the sole material for enclosures and partitions, creating a clear dialogue between the new and the old. This material contrast honors the original design by architects Manuel Feo and Elías Medina while defining a calm, contemporary atmosphere.
Access to the church is through a small concrete square framed by large planters. The wooden folding doors open the main façade entirely to the outside, extending the gathering space when needed. Light and restraint define the new temple—built only with wood and concrete, where simplicity becomes its most expressive gesture.
