The intervention consisted of transforming an unfinished reinforced concrete structure, abandoned for over ten years, into a new and much-needed church for the Las Mantecas neighborhood. Given the building’s deteriorated state, the parish community chose to adapt and complete the existing structure to prevent further decay.

The design approach did not seek to completely absorb the pre-existing structure but to respectfully embrace its original form. By avoiding major alterations, the community retains the possibility to expand the building in future phases. Wood was used exclusively for enclosure and space division, creating a clear distinction between the new work and the existing structure, honoring the original construction.

Formally, the new parish church is a bright and austere building, relying on just two materials: wood for the vertical walls and concrete for the floors and altar. The main entrance is accessed from the lower level via a concrete plaza, with folding wooden doors on the facade that open fully to extend the church’s capacity when needed.
